There are characters that never disappear. Generations change, ways of consuming entertainment change, even cities change... but there is one thing that continues to arouse the curiosity of young and old alike: adventure.
And that is where two apparently different figures end up having much more in common than it seems: the pirate Dragut and Indiana Jones.
Dragut was one of the most feared Ottoman corsairs in the Mediterranean during the 16th century. His landing in Cullera is part of one of the best known historical episodes of the Valencian coast.
Pirate, strategist and navigator, Dragut represents that adventurous spirit associated with the sea, mystery and stories that for centuries have passed from generation to generation.
Last weekend, Cullera was once again full of life with the recreation of Dragut's disembarkation. The streets were transformed into a historical scene full of enthusiasm, music, gunpowder and excitement, where entire families were able to reconnect with history in a lively and experiential way.
And this is precisely where the common ground with Indiana Jones appears.
Although one belongs to real history and the other to cinema, both share something essential: they represent the archetype of the explorer.
The constant search for adventure
The discovery of unknown places
Mystery
Curiosity
The risk
The desire for self-improvement
Indiana Jones is an adventurous archaeologist obsessed with discovering historical relics and solving enigmas. And Dragut, from another historical perspective, also symbolizes that epic imaginary linked to expeditions, voyages and legends of the Mediterranean.
Perhaps that is why these characters continue to connect so much with the new generations.
Because in an increasingly digital and fast-paced world, we still need experiences that make us feel part of a story.
That is precisely what we do in Indiana Tours Valencia since 2021. Transforming a tour through the historic center of Valencia into an expedition.
Our dramatized tours allow families, schools, groups and associations to discover the city from a completely different perspective: participating, solving riddles and being an active part of the experience.
Because learning history should not be limited to memorizing dates and events. History is remembered much more when it is lived.
That's why we work especially with:
schools and educational centers
associations
scout groups
sports clubs
groups with functional and intellectual diversity
In addition, our experiences in Valencia and Gandia are 100% accessible. During the summer season and Easter we have been operating in Peñíscola since 2023.
This season has also been a challenge for many educational and cultural activities.
Strikes in the education sector are affecting numerous school trips and bookings planned by some schools, something that directly impacts many small cultural and tourist initiatives such as ours.
Of course, we understand the importance of defending a dignified and quality education. But we also believe it is important to make visible how these situations end up affecting independent projects that work precisely to bring culture, history and experiential learning to children and young people.
Today more than ever, families are looking for different plans. Not just activities to entertain children, but experiences capable of connecting generations, arousing curiosity and creating real memories. And that's where the fusion of culture and adventure continues to make sense.
Whether living live the landing of the pirate Dragut in Cullera... or touring Valencia, Gandia or Peñíscola by the hand of the Valencian Indiana Jones.
Because perhaps we have never stopped needing explorers.
